Fauna and Flora Catalogue

November 11, 2014

Wildlife conservation has rarely felt more urgent or more inspiring. Can you imagine a world without tigers? Elephants? Coral, plants or trees? It is best not to. Fauna & Flora International has spent well over a century making sure such a world never comes to pass.

Fauna and Flora Catalogue cover

Founded in 1903, it stands as one of the oldest wildlife conservation charities anywhere. Its mission is simple yet vital. Discover new species, protect those we already have, and defend the natural world for generations to come.

A Century of Wildlife Conservation Leadership

The charity began with British and American conservationists worried about the rapid decline of southern Africa’s great mammals. Their early lobbying helped shape some of the first wildlife protection laws in the region. It also contributed to the creation of the first national parks and efforts to control the ivory trade.

Today the Cambridge-based organisation continues that proud tradition. It combines habitat restoration, marine conservation and community-led approaches across five continents.

Protecting Species We Cannot Replace

The charity’s work spans the planet’s most threatened ecosystems. From tropical rainforests to fragile coral reefs, it focuses on species at genuine risk of extinction. Practical, lasting solutions are created alongside local communities and governments.

Supporters join an organisation backed by royal patronage stretching back to 1928. Queen Elizabeth II held the role for 68 years. Sir David Attenborough has been a proud member for over 50 years and serves as vice-president.

You can be part of the solution too. Help ensure we never lose the animals and plants that make our world beautifully diverse.
